Malampuzha is a village in Palakkad district of Kerala, South India.
Malampuzha Dam
This is of course, the main attraction only around which the others are situated. Visitors can enter the top of the dam through the left side of the gardens (North end), and walk along the dam till the end. There is an exit near the wind-mill to enter back to the gardens. Nature lovers walk till the end of the dam to reach "Kava", a scenic spot full of wonderful species of flora and fauna at the catchment area of the dam.
Malampuzha Garden
The Malampuzha Garden at the foot of the Dam was reconstructed recently at a cost of Rs. 21.57 crores. The 28.5 acres Garden is reconstructed as a miniature of the world famous Mughal Gardens. Nandi Park and Krishna Park are a part of the Gardens. There are two hanging bridges running across the Malampuzha canal. Within the Malampuzha Gardens is a large sculpture of Yakshi (an enchantress) created by the famous sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman. A musical fountain operates in the park after 6:00 PM. Please use dustbins to keep the Garden clean.
Ropeway
There is a ropeway running parallel to the Dam, which is first of its kind in South India. The ropeway gives a 20 minutes thrilling ride with an aerial view of the Malampuzha Gardens and the Dam. This 2000 ft long ropeway runs at a height of 60 feet from the ground. There are 64 rope cars, each with a capacity of 2 persons. The Ropeway operates from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and safety gadgets are provided. The ropeway, named "Udan Khatola", is operated by Usha Breco Ltd., an ISO 9001:2008 company
Snake Park
The Snake Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre located outside the Malampuzha Gardens is a major attraction for tourists and snake lovers. Various poisonous and non-poisonous reptiles are exhibited in the Snake Park, but with utmost care of them. There are Pythons , Cobras, Vipers and variety of other rarely found snakes. There is also instructions board available, which shows what to do in case of a Snake bite, and the lifestyles of snakes. A few tortoises are also kept in the Snake Park. The Snake Park, managed by the Kerala Forest Department, is open from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Aquarium
A fresh-water aquarium, shaped like a giant fish, is situated outside the Malampuzha Gardens on the way to the Ropeway entrance. Visitors get inside the aquarium through the wide opened mouth of the fish. Though not having a large collection, various varieties of fishes and other marine specimen are exhibited. The aquarium is open from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. The aquarium is operated by the Kerala Governemt Fisheries Department, which also runs a fish culture in the reservoir.
Children's Park
Inside the Malampuzha Gardens in a Children's park which contain lots of recreational and enjoyment facilities for children. There are plenty of slides, see-saws, merry-go-rounds, swingsets, overhead ladders and the like. There is also a Toy train that goes round the Children's park. The Children's Park is open from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. It is pretty safe to leave children there, as the park is well surrounded by fence, and children cannot accidentally go out of the park.Japanese Park
The oriental flavor of this pretty little garden, designed in typical Japanese style, adds an enchanting touch to the park. The Japanese Park was recently renovated to add more attractions. There is also a rope bridge over the canal nearby. It is open from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 2:30 PM to 8:00 PM.Rock Garden
Malampuzha Rock Garden is the first rock garden of South India. The most interesting feature of the rock garden is that the whole place is made of unwanted and broken pieces of bangles, tiles, used plastic cans, tins and other waste materials. The garden is a master work of sculptor Padmasree Neck Chand Saini of Chandigarh. His rock garden in Chandigarh is world famous and attracts thousands of tourists every year.
